Daviess County High School has named Quadarius Wallace as its next head football coach, bringing a familiar face back to lead the program.

Wallace, who spent nine seasons on the Panthers’ coaching staff before a brief 1-year stint at Owensboro High School, met with players Wednesday and is eager to get to work.

“This is just God’s timing,” Wallace said. “It feels great to be back.”

Wallace, a Mississippi native, played two years at East Central Community College before finishing his collegiate career at Kentucky Wesleyan College. He joined the Daviess County coaching staff in 2015 under then-head coach Matt Brannon, was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2017, and remained in that role through the 2023 season. In 2024, he served as the defensive backs coach at Owensboro High School.

Now leading the Panthers, Wallace is focused on assembling a strong coaching staff and establishing a clear vision for the program.

“The first thing I have to do is get with my staff,” Wallace said. “I’ve spoken to a lot of them throughout the process, but I need to have a staff meeting. My goal is to empower great coaches. I want to be a resource and a tool for them, but I don’t want to call offense or defense. I want to hire coordinators who are passionate and knowledgeable about their side of the ball.”

Wallace said he plans to name an offensive coordinator, a defensive coordinator, and a special teams coordinator. He also emphasized the importance of character development within the program. He is also eager to name an FCA character coach.

“My priority is getting the people who are going to be on this journey with me on the same page, and also making sure our character counts,” he said.

His introduction to the team was met with excitement, and Wallace said players have already embraced his leadership.

“The kids loved it,” he said. “They were excited and ready to get to work. The coaches told me it was one of the best workouts they’ve had since the spring. They came in competing, pushing around heavy weights — that’s what you want to see.”

Wallace credits Brannon with helping shape his leadership style.

“Coach Brannon was a great teacher for me, especially in the leadership aspect,” Wallace said. “He empowered me early on and trusted me with the defense, which made me a better coach. That’s something I want to do with my assistants — give them responsibilities they can be proud of.”

Wallace also expressed appreciation for the school administration, particularly DCHS Principal Jeff Wethington.

“Jeff Wethington has been a huge asset for me,” Wallace said. “His energy and passion are infectious. It’s refreshing to have someone so invested in your success, and I’m fortunate to be able to work for someone like him.”

A community meet-and-greet with Wallace will be scheduled at a later date.
