Records show that a 21-year-old Owensboro man has been charged with murder for the deadly shooting that took place Monday night on Gardenside Drive.

According to jail records and a police citation by Owensboro Times, Javar Acton was charged with murder. Records show that he was booked into the Daviess County Detention Center just after midnight, and his arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

According to a brief statement from OPD just before 9 p.m. Monday night, officers responded to the 900 block of Gardenside Drive in reference to a deadly shooting. Records show the incident took place at approximately 7:45 p.m.

According to a police citation obtained Tuesday morning by OT, Acton was the caller and he advised that he “had shot his friend.”

Upon officers’ arrival, Acton was “outside the residence with his hands in the air, and a gun on the trunk of his vehicle,” the citation shows.

The report says the victim, who was found inside the residence, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on scene. While the citation identifies the victim, OT is choosing not to release the name until authorities have done so publicly.

Officers remained on scene to execute a search warrant and collect evidence, the report shows.
