Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) both saw their season end after losing in the semi-finals of their respective district tournaments.
Meade County 63, Hancock County 28
The Lady Hornets had no answer for Meade County’s hot shooting early, losing 63-28 in the 11th district tournament.
“Meade came out and made shots and we just couldn’t get shots to fall early,” Hancock County head coach Kevin Husk said. “I’m extremely proud of their effort tonight and how they battled to the end. This group is grown by leaps and bounds, and they all return next year.”
Ansley House led the way with 11 points and five rebounds, while Madyson Higdon grabbed a team-high eight boards. Carolina Jones finished with seven points and three steals, while Jordyn Waltrip recorded three steals. Ansley Chappell had two points and five rebounds.
“I think the girls showed a lot of growth throughout the season,” Husk said. “We were so young and inexperienced coming into the season. With that comes a lot of inconsistency but overall, the girls improved drastically and understand the game a little better.”
Edmonson County 64, Trinity (Whitesville) 24
Hosting the 12th district tournament, the Lady Raiders struggled at times to execute their gameplan, losing to Edmonson County 64-24. Ry’Lynne Meserve hit two threes to go along with her team-high 10 points, while Emily McDaniel added four points. Sophie Hatfield (3), Preslee Meserve (3), Lilly Goetz (2), and Sarah Payne (2) rounded out the teams scoring.
“For the season, we made big strides throughout the year,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Emily Hernandez said. “These girls work hard and want to get better. I am proud of how far they have come. The three seniors have stuck with the program through a couple of rough seasons, and they came a long way this year. I am proud of their leadership and the way they worked with the young girls this season. These young girls have a ton of potential and I look forward to seeing them progress.”
