Friday night murder victim identified

The victim of Friday night’s fatal shooting has been identified.

According to the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, the victim is 44-year-old Patrick Wilson, who has been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

According to a release, OPD was dispatched to assist the Owensboro Fire Department and AMR on a cardiac arrest at 1109 West 9th Street at 10:41 p.m. on February 14.

“A male subject was located on the ground in the parking lot and as life-saving measures were given, it was discovered the male subject had been shot,” authorities said. “Patrol officers immediately began a criminal investigation and shortly thereafter had a suspect description,” OPD said. “Patrol officers were able to locate and detain the suspect while the crime scene was being processed. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene, reviewed video surveillance, and conducted interviews.”

Gary Legg, 56, of Owensboro, was identified as the suspect, according to OPD. He was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
