After impressive showings at the first round of the state tournament for swim and dive, Daviess County, Owensboro, and Owensboro Catholic all had athletes reach the state finals this past weekend.
For the Lady Panthers, they finished 19th in the 200 freestyle relay and 20th in the 200 medley relay. Both of their relay teams consisted of Alaina Mason, Ryleigh Bevil, Ellie Girten, and Grace Bullock. In the individual events, Girten dropped time in both of her races – finishing 20th in the 50 freestyle and 22nd in the 100 freestyle. Bevil placed 10th in the 100 breaststroke and 18th in the 200 IM. On the boys’ diving side, Shiloh Sumners placed 16th.
Owensboro’s Georgia Warren finished 20th with a score of 148.30 in the preliminary round of the one meter diving. She advanced to the semi-finals where she placed 19th with a score of 232.95.
Owensboro Catholic’s Bellah Bowman placed 23rd in the 100 freestyle preliminaries. Her brother Miller Bowman advanced to the finals of the 100 freestyle and placed fifth in the consolation heat. He also advanced to the finals in the 100 breaststroke and finished eighth in the championship heat. The Aces boys’ medley relay finished 24th in the preliminaries.
“I was super proud and excited that so many swimmers from our team made it to finals,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Sam Howard said. “Miller really surprised us by going from being seeded 18th on the breaststroke to getting 8th in prelims and earning his spot in the champions heat. I also want to congratulate Parker Hayden on completing his senior year season with Owensboro Catholic. Parker has been a great leader to his younger teammates, and we will miss having him around next season.”
