Daviess County beat Apollo in an important district match, while Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) both came up just short.

Daviess County 72, Apollo 38

DeAaron Watkins recorded a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds to help power the Panthers to a 72-38 win over Apollo. Jaxon Brown (17), Aydan Ayer (15), and Jonathan Moss (15) also all finished in double digits, while Joe Varble added six points and six rebounds.

“We shared the ball really well – having 22 team assists and we shot 72%,” Daviess County head coach Neil Hayden said. “We had balanced scoring which I thought was created by our unselfish play and pressure defense.”

For the Eagles, Luke Jarboe scored a team-high 11 points, while scored all eight of his points in the first half. Kayden Green was third on the team in scoring with seven points.

Meade County 64, Hancock County 60

Alex Madden scored 21 points and added three rebounds, three assists, and one steal in the Hornets’ 64-60 loss to Meade County. Dylan Morris finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, while Abe Simpson was second on the team in scoring with 14 points. Keegan Wilson recorded 13 points, five assists, and three steals.

Grayson County 53, Trinity Whitesville 46

The Raiders held their own, but had no answer for Grayson County’s Jack Logsdon (31 points), falling just short 53-46. Connor Hatfield led his team in scoring with 12 points, while Cale Boarman added 11 points. All nine of Ian Roby’s points came from deep, while Harrison Barnett finished with six points.

“It was a great game for us, especially considering we were short Will,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Nathan West said. “Obviously we have to do a better job guarding Jack, but overall, I was proud of how we handled the pressure. They are a great team and we will use this momentum going forward.”
