An Owensboro man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in federal prison for attempted online enticement of a minor and attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor, authorities have announced.

According to a release, Corey James Jarboe, 30, used the internet to communicate with an undercover law enforcement officer who he believed to be a 14-year-old female. Authorities say that during those conversations, Jarboe knowingly attempted to entice the minor to engage in criminal sexual activity by making plans to meet in person for sexual contact.

According to court documents, Jarboe was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release, for attempted online enticement of a minor and attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor.

There is no parole in the federal system.

U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Special Agent in Charge Rana Saoud of Homeland Security Investigations Nashville, and Commissioner Phillip Burnett, Jr. of the Kentucky State Police made the announcement.
