A 45-year-old Owensboro man has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to OPD, Jeffrey Dale Jones was driving westbound on East 18th Street Wednesday afternoon when the accident occurred. A release says that witnesses reported Jones was traveling at a high rate of speed before crossing into the oncoming traffic lane and colliding with a traffic light pole at the intersection of East 18th Street and Triplett Street.

The Owensboro Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash. A toxicology report is pending, authorities said.

The intersection was temporarily closed Wednesday afternoon as crews investigated and cleared the scene. The roadway was reopened later that day.

OPD announced Thursday morning that the Daviess County Coroner’s Office confirmed Jones succumbed to his injuries from the accident.
