OPD: 2 arrested after attempting to flee traffic stop; suspected fentanyl, weapons, cash seized

Two people have been arrested after attempting to flee on foot during a traffic stop and being found with suspected fentanyl, meth, and other drugs along with weapons and cash, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to a release, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on January 12, a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop near West 5th Street and Locust Street. Upon stopping, two passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot, according to OPD.

Officers located 21-year-old Noah Boehman behind a residence in the 500 block of Cedar Street, the release says. Boehman, identified as the rear passenger, was found in possession of synthetic marijuana and cash, according to OPD.

The second suspect, 21-year-old Jesse Gonzalez, attempted to evade officers by running through multiple yards, the release says. He was apprehended in the 600 block of Poplar Street and identified as the front passenger, and over $8,000 in cash was recovered near Gonzalez, according to OPD.

The release says that during a search of the suspects’ flight paths, officers discovered a bag containing suspected fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, marijuana, and oxycodone pills. Additionally, officers traced Boehman’s route and recovered his cell phone, a loaded 9mm handgun with hollow-point ammunition, and a spare magazine loaded with hollow-point rounds.

Both suspects were transported to the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges, according to OPD:

Boehman:

  1. Fleeing and Evading Police, 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  2. Criminal Trespassing, 3rd Degree
  3. Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st Offense (Methamphetamine) (Enhancement)
  4. Possession of Synthetic Drugs – 1st Offense (Enhancement)
  5. Using Restricted Ammo During Felony, No Shots (Enhancement)
  6. Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st Offense (Carfentanil or Fentanyl) (Enhancement)
  7. Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, -1st Offense (Enhancement)
  8. Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  9. Trafficking in Marijuana (Less than 8 oz.) – 1st Offense

Gonzalez:

  1. Fleeing and Evading Police, 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  2. Criminal Trespassing, 2nd Degree
  3. Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
  4. Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree – 1st Offense
  5. Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st Offense (Carfentanil or Fentanyl)

The investigation is ongoing.
