Another winter storm is expected to blanket the Owensboro area with heavy snowfall starting late tonight and continuing through Friday evening. The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the region, predicting total accumulations of 4 to 7 inches of snow.

Snowfall is expected to begin accumulating in Owensboro between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Friday, with the most intense snowfall rates occurring between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The storm is forecast to taper off in the late afternoon or early evening, with snowfall tapering off between 7 and 10 p.m.

The snow, which is expected to be dry and fluffy according to the NWS, is anticipated to cause widespread travel difficulties. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly Friday morning as the snow begins to accumulate, creating hazardous conditions for drivers throughout the day. Officials are urging residents to stay off the roads if possible and to exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.

Temperatures are expected to remain near or below freezing throughout the event, which could prolong icy road conditions even after the snow stops falling. Transportation officials are preparing for significant impacts, and residents are advised to finalize any preparations Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service has expressed high confidence in the forecast, citing consistent meteorological signals for the storm. For those who must travel, officials recommend carrying an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water, in case of delays or accidents.
