Owensboro narrowly beat Owensboro Catholic, while Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) also picked up wins. In other action, Daviess County lost to Edmonson County at the buzzer.
Owensboro 70, Owensboro Catholic 67
In a battle of rivals, Owensboro held off the Lady Aces down the stretch to win 70-67. Heleina John hit three threes to go along with her team-high 23 points, while Shalyn Sprinkles and Gizelle Whitlock both added 17 points.
“Although we didn’t play a perfect game, we played hard and together until the final horn to escape with a district win,” Owensboro head coach Jansen Locher said. “Hats off to the girls for Catholic. They fought their way back into the game after getting down big early. Heleina John and Gizelle Whitlock made some big shots for us, Shalyn Sprinkles was consistent as always, and the team created havoc on defense to win the game.”
For the Lady Aces, Aubrey Randolph exploded for 29 points, eight rebounds, one steal, one assist, and one block. Taylor Mannahan finished with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal, while Karmin Riley added nine points, six rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
“I thought we fought hard, but we didn’t come up with the winning play at the end of the game,” Owensboro catholic head coach Michael Robertsons said. “They did and we can’t get ourselves into that big of a hole to start the game.”
Edmonson County 49, Daviess County 47
It was a heartbreaker for Daviess County, losing to Edmonson County 49-47 on a buzzer beater.
Kennedy Lane scored 10 of her team-high 19 points in the second half, while Zoey Beehn added 11 points. Lily Hoagland also finished in double digits (10) and added five rebounds and one steal.
“It was a hard-fought game, and I felt our kids really battled defensively,” Daviess County head coach Natalie Payne said. “Offensively, we struggled with being consistent for four quarters. It is always tough to lose the way that we did, but we can’t dwell on it. We are just going to learn and grow from it. It’s time to get back to work and prepare for Owensboro Catholic on Friday.
Hancock County 59, Cloverport 23
The Lady Hornets beat Cloverport 59-23 to snap a two game losing streak. Ansley House led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Izzy Ross added 13 points and five rebounds. Madyson Higdon finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Jaylee Johnson recorded one point and four boards.
“This win puts at 10-10 on the season, with a lot of time to keep working hard,” Hancock County head coach Kevin Husk said.
Trinity (Whitesville) 64, Webster County 60
Rylynee Meserve scored a team-high 18 points to fuel the Lady Raiders to a 64-60 win over Webster County. Sarah Payne added 15 points, while Preslee Meserve (14) also finished in double figures.
“The girls competed for 32 minutes,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Emily Hernadez said. “Every adjustment we made they listened, focused, and adjusted. Much better effort tonight.”
