Owensboro Catholic’s Dereon Crowe has signed with Illinois State University to continue his football and academic career. Transferring from Owensboro High School to Owensboro Catholic at the beginning of the year, Crowe helped lead the Aces football team to the State Championship and a 14-1 record.

Playing both sides of the ball, Crowe was one of the Aces’ top offensive threats – scoring 26 total touchdowns, while forcing two fumbles, and picking off two passes on defense. At the next level, he will be focusing on defense – an opportunity he is looking forward to.

Crowe heard from multiple schools including Eastern Kentucky, Vanderbilt, James Madison, and Louisville, but he only received offers from EKU and Illinois State.

“I chose Illinois State because of the coaching staff and it’s a great opportunity to get on the field and produce my talent at a high level at the FCS division,” Crowe said. “It’s a great program and city that I love to be a part of.”

During his junior year Crowe started to hear from different schools – leading him to hit the weight room more – forming a D1 body. It wasn’t until he arrived at Catholic that he received his first college offer.

“When I first transferred here, Jason Morris started to reach out to many schools and that was how I received my offer from Illinois State,” Crowe said.

With about six months left before his collegiate career begins, Crow plans to spend his time hitting the weight room, getting bigger, and eating better.

“I’m glad I got to do it and I am ready for the next level,” Crowe said. “I get to produce my talent, chase my dream, and hopefully achieve it one day.”
