Competing against rival Owensboro, Apollo bowling completed a clean sweep. The boys’ team narrowly won 4-3, while the girls’ team won 7-0. For the boys’ Landon Thompson led the way with 246 and 200, while Owen Miller and Bradley Fulkerson rolled 210 and 218.
“The boys win vs the state runner ups was just what we needed to take some momentum into the Region Tournament this weekend,” Apollo coach Kerrie Franklin said. “Our Eagles showed that we are not going to give up attitude tonight and got a tough down-to-the-wire win against a very good team that will be a favorite at Region.”
For the girls’, Sophie O’Bryan rolled 203, while Kay McDaniel and Gracie Brown bowled 182 and 175.
“The Apollo E-gals finish the season undefeated and this team is focused and ready for the Region Tournament on Saturday,” Franklin said. “They are finishing the season doing their best bowling which is just what we need to make a run back to State. I’m proud of all of our bowlers/both teams tonight and their wins – which gave me 190 wins in my 10 years coaching – especially proud of our seniors that we celebrated tonight before the match – Jay Greenwell, Maddy McDaniel, Cassidy Joines, Elizabeth Layson, Andrew Smith, Mikal Crawford, Brycen Chenault and Landon Thompson. They will definitely be missed next season and have been a blessing to have in our Apollo Bowling Family.”
