Fifteen-year-old Cale Boarman, a sophomore at Trinity High School in Whitesville, Kentucky, is set to compete in the World Karting Association’s (WKA) Daytona KartWeek from December 27 to 30, 2024, at the iconic Daytona International Speedway.

Boarman has been racing go-karts since the age of eight and earned his invitation to this national event through performances in the Vintage Karting Association (VKA). A seasoned observer, Steve Mox from Ohio, recognized Boarman’s talent and offered him the opportunity to race in Daytona.

“It’s been great; when you take a step back and just think about it, it’s pretty special,” Boarman said about racing inside Daytona International Speedway. “I’m thankful and glad that I got the opportunity to do it.”

Competing in the Margay Ignite class, Boarman will face drivers from across the United States, many of whom are adults, as the class is open to racers aged 15 and above. Despite being one of the youngest participants, Boarman remains optimistic.

“Just make my way up to the front,” he said about his goals. “It’s a different go-kart than I’ve been running, so just getting used to that and building on it each day.”

The WKA, established in 1971, is the largest sanctioning body for kart racing in North America, hosting events that have been instrumental in the careers of many well-known racers. Daytona KartWeek is a highlight on the karting calendar, attracting hundreds of karters to compete on multiple courses within the Speedway.

Boarman’s journey to Daytona is supported by a dedicated team, including his uncle, grandfather, father, and family friend, alongside mentor Steve Mox. Reflecting on his aspirations, Boarman expressed a desire to advance in motorsports.

“I’d like to be a stock car driver,” he said. “I don’t really know if I have enough money and sponsors to be able to get to NASCAR, but I’d like to make my way as far as I can get up there.”

Boarman wouldn’t be the first Whitesville native to race in the big stage with several acclaimed NASCAR drivers calling the small town home. Darrell, Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Jeremy Mayfield, and Jeff and Mark Green all got their start at Whitesville’s Kentucky Motor Speedway.

As Boarman prepares for the upcoming races, he remains focused on gaining experience and showcasing his skills on a national platform.
