After returning to his home state of Kentucky this year to play for the Wildcats, quarterback Gavin Wimsatt has entered the transfer portal. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

As a backup to Brock Vandagriff, Wimsatt was utilized as a rusher and filled in sparingly at the end of games.

“First, I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity to represent my home state. Also, thank you to Coach Stoops and his staff for bringing me in,” Wimsatt said in a post on social media. “I’m super grateful for all my teammates and the connections I got to make while at Kentucky. Finally, thank you, Big Blue Nation, for all your support. With that being said, I’ll be entering the transfer portal for my final year of eligibility.”

Wimsatt also took the reins after Vandagriff went down against Tennessee and when Cutter Bailey was injured in the Louisville game. He finished the year 16 of 39 for 287 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. On the ground, he rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Wimsatt transferred to Kentucky a year ago after spending three seasons at Rutgers, joining the school in 2021. The former Owensboro High School star, Wimsatt had an up-and-down Rutgers tenure that culminated in winning the 2023 Pinstripe Bowl. That year, Wimsatt helped the Scarlett Knights finish 7-6 before taking down Miami 31-24 in the Bowl game.

During his last year at Rutgers, Wimsatt completed 47.8% of his passes for 1,735 yards and nine touchdowns against eight interceptions. On the ground, he added 497 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his three seasons at Rutgers, Wimsatt completed 46.6% of his passes for 2,537 yards and 14 touchdowns, while throwing 14 interceptions. He carried the ball 180 times for 628 yards and 11 scores.
