City residents needing to get rid of extra trash or a natural Christmas tree over the holidays can have it picked up, but there are a few basic rules that must be followed.
From December 26-31, Owensboro Sanitation Department crews will pick up extra holiday trash if resudents place it in plastic bags at least 2 feet away from their mobile cart.
From January 2-7, crews will pick up natural Christmas trees, as long as they are placed on the curb and are free of lights, stands, and ornaments. Crews ask residents to not place the trees in a plastic bag.
Extra holiday trash does not include large or bulky items.
The Sanitation Department is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, so residents whose collection day falls on either holiday, service is provided the following day. Friday routes will be collected on Saturday.
