Big Lots may not be going out of business entirely after all, but the future of its Owensboro store remains uncertain.
The discount retailer released a restructuring plan on Friday, aiming to preserve its brand, hundreds of stores, and thousands of jobs nationwide. The move follows an earlier report that Big Lots was planning to begin going-out-of-business sales at all locations.
According to the company’s news release, the restructuring plan involves a sales transaction led by Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC. This agreement enables the transfer of Big Lots assets—including stores, distribution centers, and intellectual property—to other retailers and companies.
One of the companies involved is Variety Wholesalers, Inc., which operates more than 400 retail stores in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic under banners such as Roses, Roses Express, Maxway, Bill’s Dollar Stores, Super 10, Super Dollar, and Bargain Town.
When asked for specific details about the Owensboro location, Evan Grogan, a senior account executive with PR firm Joele Frank, said the company is not providing additional information beyond the official release.
The press release emphasizes Big Lots’ commitment to “remaining a trusted resource for affordable, high-quality home goods,” though no timeline or further clarification has been given regarding which stores might remain open or transition under new ownership.
