Mike Van Meter will continue serving as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 6th Judicial Circuit, which covers all of Daviess County. Van Meter was appointed by Gov. Andy Beshear in January to fill the seat following the retirement of Bruce Kuegel.
Van Meter was hired as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in 1994. He has been with the office since that time and had served as the First Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney since 2015 prior to his current role.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity given to me on to have been appointed as Daviess County Commonwealth’s Attorney after being an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Daviess County for 29 years,” Van Meter said. “I’m equally grateful for the faith and support of the Daviess County Bar Association for allowing me to run uncontested for the upcoming 6-year term and for every vote of support from the citizens of Daviess County, even though my race was not contested.”
Van Meter said that after 30 years of prosecuting, he is still passionate about hks job and he is honored to continue as the elected Commonwealth’s Attorney.
“I am fully aware of the mantle of power bestowed upon me by being Daviess County’s highest-ranking law enforcement official,” he said. “I shall wear it humbly and with honor. As my predecessors in this office, my goals and priorities in office are short and succinct: to make Daviess County a safer place to live and raise a family.”
