Nation’s Medicines has announced that its location at 3030 Burlew Boulevard has closed and is merging with its site at 415 Carter Road, effective November 11. In a statement shared by the company on Facebook last week, the pharmacy said the change comes as David Nation, who owned and operated the pharmacy for 52 years, steps into retirement.

The husband-and-wife duo of Aaron and Ashley Ballou own the Carter Road location and remain committed to serving the Owensboro community.

“All patients will be served from our Carter Rd location going forward,” the statement says. “We want to assure all of Burlew Blvd’s current patients that your experience will remain unchanged. You will continue to receive the same level of care and will see many of the same faces, including pharmacist Dr. Gabe Hardy and technician Angie Cambron.”

The merged operation will continue to provide pharmacy services at the Carter Road location under the familiar Nation’s Medicines name. Patients with questions are encouraged to call the pharmacy at 270-685-0557.

“We are going to do our best to continue the legacy and hope to continue being a staple of the community,” Ashley Ballou said.

Nation declined to comment on his retirement.

According to the company website, Nation initially launched the pharmacy in 1972 after serving three years in the military as the Chief of the Pharmacy Service at the U.S. Army Hospital in Fort Polk, LA.

This move affects only the Burlew Boulevard and Carter Road locations. Earlier this year, a former Nation’s Medicines location on KY 54 was rebranded as Bluegrass Apothecary. Carl and Kim Lewis own and operate Bluegrass Apothecary at 3000 Alvey Park Drive.
