A new mobile unit, set to roll out in January 2025, will provide an innovative approach to delivering services throughout Daviess County. The Center of Owensboro-Daviess County aims to connect individuals with community resources through the unit, removing transportation barriers and increasing access for families in need.

“This project is groundbreaking for social services in the area,” Executive Director Erica Wade said. “We’ll be bringing resources directly to people, meeting them where they are.”

The 27-foot-long unit, designed to resemble a front yard to create a welcoming atmosphere, features two private meeting rooms – one of which is ADA-compliant – along with a family-friendly central room equipped with activities for children. An outdoor fenced-in area with an awning will provide booth space, shaded seating, and activities, ensuring children and therapy dogs stay safe during events.

Brewco Marketing Group in Central City, KY, handled the design and fabrication of the unit.

Wade emphasized that the mobile unit is not just about The Center’s services but is designed to foster collaboration. She said it’s equipped for eight community partners and offers tailored services depending on the audience.

She said adult education programs might collaborate with career services at a workforce event, while early childhood services such as Head Start could be available at family-focused events.

“We’ve designed it so we can bring in different resources depending on the event,” Wade said. “It’s probably the most collaborative project we’ve ever attempted.”

The Center is leveraging technology through the Unite Us digital platform, which allows agencies to share data and seamlessly refer clients across participating organizations. Wade said the platform will help reduce duplication of services while keeping track of individuals’ needs over time.

“If someone shows up at an event and their need isn’t met that day, no problem,” Wade said. “We’ll still enter their information into the system, get them referred, and provide follow-ups through text, email, or print.”

The mobile unit will focus on Daviess County throughout 2025, with a goal of participating in at least 50 events during the year. In preparation, The Center is calling on community partners to submit event requests now to secure spots on the schedule.

“We’re really working to get as many partners involved as possible and are urging organizations to reach out now,” Wade said. “We want to have everything lined up to make the most impact from January to December next year.”

Wade also announced that sponsorships are now available for organizations and businesses interested in supporting the project. Sponsors can choose from event-specific options or year-long partnerships. Those committing to a full year will have their logos featured on the vehicle’s exterior wrap, providing visible recognition across all events.

“This is a great way for organizations to show their support while being a visible part of the project,” Wade said.

Community partners and sponsors interested in participating can contact The Center at (270) 684-3837 or visit their website to learn more.

“We believe this unit will change lives by bringing essential services directly to those who need them most,” Wade said.
