Owensboro will host the 2025 Kentucky All “A” Classic Basketball Championships for both boys and girls, according to a joint announcement by Visit Owensboro and the Kentucky All “A” Classic. The tournament features 32 of the state’s top small school teams and will take place Jan. 22-26, 2025, at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
The event will begin Wednesday, Jan. 22, with first-round girls’ games starting at 8:30 a.m. and running throughout the day. The boys’ tournament will kick off Thursday, Jan. 23, also with an 8:30 a.m. start. The quarterfinals will be held on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday, and both championship games on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Mike Reeves, secretary/treasurer of the Kentucky All “A” Classic, expressed enthusiasm for the event’s location.
“Owensboro is a great community, and we look forward to being there in January 2025,” Reeves said.
Mark Calitri, president of Visit Owensboro, praised the partnership with the Kentucky All “A” Classic.
“The All ‘A’ Classic represents the smaller schools in Kentucky, and we are going to create a true championship atmosphere,” Calitri said. “This is an incredible opportunity to introduce Owensboro’s vibrant community to athletes, fans, and school administrators from across the state.”
The release said the tournament is expected to draw over 32,000 fans and generate an economic impact of more than $1.9 million for the local community.
Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson said the city is ready to showcase its attractions.
“With our exceptional riverfront and fantastic local attractions, restaurants, and shops, we’re eager to welcome visitors and ensure a memorable experience for everyone,” Watson said.
The Kentucky All “A” Classic is an annual statewide basketball tournament for Kentucky high schools with an enrollment of 575 or less. The event will celebrate its 36th year in 2025, with 122 schools currently participating in its athletic and scholarship programs.
Locally, Hancock County, McLean County, Owensboro Catholic, and Trinity (Whitesville) all participate in All “A” competitions. They’ll compete in the 3rd Region All “A” Classic for an attempt to debut at the state tournament at the Sportscenter.
