Fighting off the heat Saturday afternoon, the E-Gals took down Muhlenberg County 3-1 off the back of Jada Pollard’s two goals to advance to the regional semifinals.
“I think we played well,” Apollo head coach Zack Akin said. “We had another middle-of-the-day playoff game, but the postseason is about getting the result, surviving, and advancing. We did well in stuff we’ve focused on the last couple of weeks – combination plays and not getting stuck defending for the majority of the game.”
Thwey Wah rounded out Apollo’s scoring, while Lilli Ruth tallied two assists, with the third coming from Kara Green.
On Tuesday evening at 5:30, the E-Gals will take on Meade County who had a first-round bye. The two played early on in the season, with Apollo emerging victorious 2-0.
“Moving forward, we need to stay organized defensively,” Akin said. “Today we had some lapses on defense that led to some scary situations.”
Daviess County who had a first-round bye, faces Ohio County in the other semi-final match. The Lady Panthers shutout Ohio County earlier in the season 7-0.
