The Cougars (5-3) ran all over Webster County (2-6), scoring five touchdowns on the ground in their 32-10 win Friday evening.
After a scoreless first quarter, Aden Bolden ripped off a 22-yard rushing touchdown and Kamden Walters ran in the two-point conversion to give the Cougars an 8-0 lead three minutes into the second quarter.
Just under six minutes later the Cougars took a 14-0 lead after QB Ayden Rice scored from 14 yards out, but the two-point attempt was unsuccessful. Entering halftime up 14-0, McLean County started the second half with the ball and scored on their opening drive to take a commanding 20-0 lead. Rice ran in his second touchdown of the night, this time from six yards out, but once again the two-point attempt was unsuccessful.
With 5:26 remaining in the third quarter Webster County avoided being shut out, running in a TD to trim the lead to 20-7. Unfazed, the Cougars answered 24 seconds later on a Trakoby Gill four-yard touchdown run to extend their lead to 27-7.
In the fourth quarter Webster County kicked a field goal to trim the lead to 17, but the Cougars responded on their ensuing drive. Walters ran it in from two yards out for the teams final score of the night.
Next Friday, the Cougars travel to Trigg County for a chance to solidify themselves towards the top of the district.
