Looking to snap a two-game skid, the Cougars dominated all three phases of the game, routing Todd County Central 42-22.
With 2:45 remaining in the first quarter, McLean County got on the board first when Aden Bolden found HB Whitaker for a 48-yard touchdown pass. A successful two-point attempt made it 8-0.
Less than four minutes later, the Cougars made it 16-0 when Walters ran in a 12-yard touchdown, and Bolden scored the two-point conversion.
Looking to get in on the action, the Cougars defender Riley Walker picked off Todd County Central and returned it for a score. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful this time around, giving McLean County a 22-0 lead with 31 seconds left in the first half.
Refusing to go away quietly, Todd County Central forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown on the first play of the second half. The two-point attempt was successful, trimming the lead to 16.
Keeping better control of the ball, with 6:49 left in the third quarter, the Cougars marched down the field and scored on a 12-yard run by Hunter Stratton. After an unsuccessful two-point attempt, McLean County led 28-8.
With 9:49 remaining in the game, McClean County extended their lead to 36-8 after QB Ayden Rice threw a strike to Landon French for a 25-yard score. On the ensuing kickoff, Todd County Central returned it for a touchdown but missed on the two-point attempt.
Almost five minutes later, Trakoby Gill ripped off a 56-yard touchdown run to extend the Cougars lead to 42-14. On their last drive with less than a minute left, Todd County Central cut the lead to 42-22 after a five-yard rush and successful two-point attempt.
The Cougars will host Union County next week.
