According to a recent report by city engineer Kevin Collignon, the Shifley-York Stormwater project is about 30% complete and slated to be finished by June 2025.

Collignon said the basin, sitting on Carter Road just south of Lee’s Famous Chicken, is complete and the combination sewers from Griffth Avenue and South York Drive are now tied into the storm system on Carter Road.

Though the construction is finished, Collignon said they will work with RWRA on a beautification project.

“We’re going to partner with RWRA to do some tree plantings in the basin, which will improve the aesthetics and provide some environmental benefit,” Collignon said.

The current phase of the project involves construction crews working in the backyards on the pipe ditch throughout the neighborhood.

According to the city engineer, this is the most difficult part of the project, largely due to access to the construction area. The cranes utilize mats to allow them to work on the project without ruining nearby yards with tracks.
