Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Vice President Shelly Nichols is leaving her position after working for the organization for nearly 10 years.
Nichols joined the Chamber in 2015 as leader of its memberships then soon became Vice President, presiding over new member recruitment and member connections.
Nichols is leaving the Chamber to live with her family in Lexington, where she will be closer to her mother and son.
“While I am excited about my new adventure, leaving the Chamber is not easy,” Nichols said. “I love the Chamber and have poured my heart and soul into my work. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve our members and to work with a staff that gives everything they have to make Owensboro a great place to live and work.”
Nichols will officially depart on August 1.
“Shelly’s deep care and concern for our members, her tireless work ethic, and her beautiful spirit have made an indelible impact on the lives of so many,” said Chamber President and CEO Candance Castlen Brake. “Whether they be small business owners, large corporations, or nonprofits and faith-based organizations, our members know that Shelly not only cares about them, she is their advocate.”
Before joining the Chamber, Nichols worked for the Public Life Foundation. She was key in implementing town halls and public meetings that led to the downtown placemaking initiative.
In 2017, Nichols took on a new role as the executive director at OASIS women’s shelter. She also worked at New Beginnings Sexual Assault Prevention Services.
The Chamber will announce the new Director of Membership soon, according to a release.
