My Sister’s Keeper wants to give families the end of summer fest at the Cottage on July 27 with the second year of Summer Fest.
The event will feature live music, food trucks, a kid’s activity area, and giveaways for attendees. President Angel Welsh said last year proved to be a good experiment for how the event could go, so when the drawing board was pulled out, Welsh said they kept everything that they loved.
This led them to decide on the big feature addition of the outdoor movie. They will be showcasing Disney+Pixar’s ‘Elemental,’ an animated movie released in 2023.
“It’s about all the different elements — fire, water, earth and wind — and how they all live together in the same world, but not allowed to cross. But it’s the story of how you’re supposed to include people and how you can come together to make good things happen,” Welsh said.
The event will start at 5 p.m., and the movie is expected at 8:30 p.m.
Welsh said it costs $10 to enter the Cottage grounds to keep it family-friendly. The $10 will go back to My Sister’s Keepers’ community efforts and cover all activities on the farm grounds.
Other activities include outdoor bowling, inflatables, hayrides, face painting and more.
“It’s just really going to be a day about family and kids because that’s what we’re really about, which is just bringing people together as families,” she said.
The Cottage has been a recent event spot in the county, and even though to some, it may be across the county, it still attracts people from all parts of the area.
“Events like this are great because it gives us energy on our other events, and we’ve got the property to do it and more,” owner Marlene Knight said.
Summer Fest plans to have food trucks alongside The Cottage’s typical menu. Some giveaway prizes include a $600 gift card to device pit stop, varying gift cards to Ulta and Target and gift baskets.
