The Daviess County 11U Little League All-Stars are heading home from the state tournament in Corbin, KY, after suffering a 5-0 loss to Lexington Eastern on Wednesday night.
Eastern pieced together a consistent effort at the plate, scoring two runs in the first, two more in the second, and one in the third. Despite holding Eastern scoreless in the final three frames, the local squad struggled to piece together momentum at the plate.
Jake Watkins recorded the team’s only hit. He also took the loss on the mound, surrendering four runs (zero earned) on just four hits. Luke Abbott entered in relief, allowing one run on two hits.
Head coach Kyle Watkins had many positive takeaways from the game and the experience.
“I’m really proud of this team,” he said. “We fought our way through an incredibly competitive district and first-game loss to battle all the way to the semifinals of the state tournament.”
Watkins spoke highly of the team’s character and looks forward to seeing them grow in the game.
“These kids did everything we asked of them and just came up a little short against a very good team,” he said. “They are a tough group and will keep getting better over the next several years. They will be fun to watch.”
The team finishes the all-star season 6-2 as district champions.
