The Kiwanis Club of Owensboro is accepting sponsorships for their annual “Walk of Honor” fundraiser, where American flags are placed and encircle the Daviess County Courthouse lawn. Flags will be on display from May 23 through July 4, but orders must be placed by May 17.
The Walk of Honor allows community members to sponsor a flag in memory of a loved one who has positively impacted their lives.
“The Walk of Honor has become a special project for Kiwanis, and it is something that many people in the community look forward to each summer. It is truly a moving and uplifting sight to see all the flags flying in such a prominent downtown area,” club president Karla Ward said.
This is the 11th year the flags will be on display, with Ward saying they average roughly 125 flags each year.
The proceeds from sponsorships go toward helping the Kiwanis Club and their charitable activities. The majority of the funds raised go back directly to the Owensboro service area.
One flag can be sponsored for $40, two for $70, or three for $90. For each flag sponsored, there will be a tag to identify the honoree’s name and the individual(s) honoring them. A personalized certificate will be available for each flag sponsored.
