The King Kids youth fishing tournament — a free event that’s part of the King Kat Tournament Trail — will take place from 9-11 a.m. at Yellow Creek Park. King Kat will give away 500 fishing poles and tackle boxes while supplies last, with one item per person. There will also be $3,000 in scholarships given away.
Children ages 15 and under are able to participate. Officials said to look for the pop-up tent near the lake to sign up. No pre-registration is required. Yellow Creek Park is located at 5710 KY 144.
Limited bait will be available at the park. Additionally, three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded later in the day at the Owensboro Convention Center. The winners must arrive at the assigned time to receive the awards and recognition.
There is also a special prize for the youngster who catches the albino catfish.
The grand prize winner of the King Kids fishing tournament will receive special recognition at the King Kat adult fishing tournament, awards, and weigh-in held at the Owensboro Convention Center.
“Daviess County Parks & Recreation is excited to collaborate with Visit Owensboro and the King Kat Tournament Trail on a youth fishing event at Yellow Creek Park,” said Jordan Rowe, Director of Parks and Public Information for Daviess County Fiscal Court. “Our park lake is stocked throughout the year with hundreds of catfish and rainbow trout. It’s the perfect place to learn to fish or showcase your skills. Join the fun and compete for some fantastic prizes at this event.”
The King Kat adult tournament will be held on the Ohio River and with the Outdoor Expo at the Owensboro Convention Center on May 3-4.
The free expo features various outdoor sporting vendors, tournament weigh-in, and Bass Pro Shop as the presenting sponsor. Organizers herald the tournament as having the largest payout with a low entry for all participants and teams.
