As preparation work for the project to widen KY 54 progresses, motorists will soon see the first major traffic change. Starting May 20 and lasting 5 days, the entrance to Hayden Road off KY 54 (near Gateway Commons) will be closed, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Contractors will be relocating existing waterlines that are currently in the path of the expansion project. Spacing issues at the intersection will not permit a borehole to be drilled under the roadway, forcing workers to cut a trench across Hayden Road to install the new pipe, according to KYTC.
Work is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. on May 20 and should be completed with asphalt repairs in place by the end of the day on May 24, KYTC officials said.
There will be a marked detour in place.
