Nonprofit leaders in the Owensboro area are invited to connect with colleagues, discuss the latest issues and opportunities facing their organizations, and discover available resources this Wednesday at the Kentucky Nonprofit Network’s forum.
The forum will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the Logsdon Community Center, 2400 Friendship Drive.
The event is open to KNN members and potential members, though advance registration is required here. There will be open discussions on recent legislation and resources, including funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, Kentucky’s Opioid Abatement Settlement, and the state GRANT program.
The forum agenda will also include a discussion of KNN’s recently released More Than Charity Report, updated every other year to increase understanding of Kentucky’s nonprofit sector’s economic importance and current challenges.
The 2024 report highlights that more than 162,000 jobs in Kentucky are at nonprofit employers, making the nonprofit sector the fourth-largest private sector employer in the Commonwealth.
This year’s report also focuses on the state’s delayed agreements and late payments on grants and contracts with nonprofits, impacting nonprofits’ ability to recruit and retain workers and effectively serve their communities. These issues often lead to waiting lists for essential services and, in some instances, the closure of nonprofit programs when they cannot be adequately staffed, according to KNN.
