A new restaurant is coming to Owensboro’s east end, with Oscar’s Cantina Mexicana expected to open in the former Legends Sports Bar & Grill in the next month or so. Owners Oscar Segura and his son Oscar Jr. said the establishment will combine Mexican cuisine with sports bar favorites.
“Dad and I always wanted to open our own restaurant together,” Segura, Jr. said. “With the help of some good friends and supporters, we were able to secure a great location and make the dream come true.”
They hope to open by late March or early April.
Segura, Jr. said they want to maintain the sports bar vibe with several large-screen televisions in the front of the restaurant, with a nicer dining area in the back. Their ultimate goal is to offer a unique Mexican dining experience with fresh food and friendly service.
The older Segura is a long-time Real Hacienda employee.
“My inspiration came from being in this business for so long, and I’ve learned so much,” he said. “My family misses all the friends we’ve made throughout the years, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again.”
The restaurant will feature outdoor seating and a drive-through window for an enhanced carry-out experience. A large party area is also available for reservations.
“My dad has been running Mexican restaurants for over 26 years. I practically grew up in the restaurants,” Segura Jr. said. “When the location became available, we both leaped at the news and knew it was our best bet.”
Segura said the location is great for former regulars at Legends, patrons visiting the adjoining shopping center, and Daviess County’s east-end residents driving in from Whitesville and Philpot.
