“I’m so proud to see nearly $115,000 in awarded grants, pledged from the Southern Star team, that will support the Owensboro community in 2024,” said Carly Walton, President of Southern Star Cares and Storage Compliance & Risk Specialist at Southern Star. “Thanks to all organizations who applied for funding from Southern Star Cares. Your work serving the area is vital, commendable, and valued.”
All recipients were chosen based on information provided on their applications, a review by the Southern Star Cares Board of Directors, team member focus groups, and a vote from employee donors who contributed to the organization’s fundraising campaign.
Southern Star Cares’ grants are funded from team members’ contributions. During its inaugural fundraising campaign in 2022, team members pledged more than $100,000, which was collected to fund the nonprofit throughout 2023. All funds raised by Southern Star Cares go to grant recipients, with no administrative fees or deductions.
This year’s grant application period was held from August 23 to September 20. Any tax-exempt, 501(c)3 organization serving Daviess County, Kentucky, was eligible to apply.
Southern Star Cares will continue its grant program in 2024. Details will be announced at a later date. For more information, please visit southernstarcares.org.
