Groovin’ on the Green, hosted by the NorthWest Neighborhood Alliance, returns on September 30. The event includes live music, activities, and food at Moneta Sleet Jr. Park.

“The NW Alliance has noticed that OBKY is becoming a community that embraces live music. So, we wanted to join that movement by creating a community event that revolves around the genres of blues, funk, jazz, and R&B,” said NW Alliance Chair Rafe Buckner.

The event will start at 4 p.m. and go until 10 p.m. Buckner said the event also comes at the right time, as the upgrades to the park have made significant headway and the alliance wants to celebrate those with the community.

Musical artists will include Monte Skelton, Sheryl Rouse & the Blues Brotherz, and Higher Ground. Food trucks scheduled to be on site are J’s Good Grub, the Crowes Nest, Roadrunner, and Follow the Smoke BBQ.

Owensboro Health staff will also attend, offereing blood pressure screenings, A1C testing, and other services.

“Groovin’ on the Green is a family-friendly event where everyone is welcome,” Buckner said. “We encourage folks to bring a lawn chair or blanket.”
