Drunk Driving Statistics
Labor Day is considered one of the more dangerous holidays for drinking and driving. On Labor Day in 2019, roughly 46% of drivers aged 18-34 that were killed in an auto accident had a BAC of .08 or higher according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.
Data from the NHTSA records that in 2020, 11,654 people were killed in auto accidents that involved a driver who was impaired. In that same year, it was estimated that one person was killed every 45 minutes in a drunk driving accident. These stats only rise during holidays.
How to Get a Free Sober Ride on Labor Day
Gerling Law believes that it is important to get home safely during the holidays. The amount of damage that losing a loved one does to a family is immeasurable, so the firm wants to make it easy to make the right decision.
To participate in the program, those celebrating just need to take a ride that begins or ends in either Owensboro, KY, or Evansville, IN. This ride can be taken with a rideshare or taxi between 8PM on September 1st through 10AM on September 4th.
After paying for the ride, all you need to do is take a screenshot of your receipt and your ID and email it to the email listed on the web page linked below. It is also best to include a full name and mailing address in the body of the email. Gerling Law will then reimburse the cost of the ride up to $30.
