Update, 3:10 p.m. August 22 — The Owensboro Police Department has released more information about Monday’s shooting at the H.L. Neblett Community Center, including that the suspect has yet to be identified.
According to a release from OPD, at approximately 6:39 p.m. officers responded to a shooting at the Neblett Center.
“Officers arrived, made entry, secured the scene, and began rendering aid to the victim within approximately 3 minutes from the time the call was received by the Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch,” according to the release.
Officers located an adult male victim and found him to have two gunshot wounds to the leg, according to the release. OPD said officers performed “life-saving measures” and the victim was transported to
Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by American Medical Response for treatment.
OPD Public Information Officer Dylan Evans said “We do not comment on the status of victims” when asked Tuesday if the person was in stable condition.
The Owensboro Police Department Evidence Collection Unit and Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene.
“The victim was playing basketball when approached by the suspect; following what appears to be a brief conversation, the suspect produced a gun and shot the victim. Surveillance video showed the suspect with his face partially covered with a mask and a hooded sweatshirt. The suspect fled the scene on foot and has not been identified at this time,” according to the release.
