The male juvenile charged with the homicide of 16-year-old Demarion Black has been transferred to adult court for a possible indictment, according to Daviess County Attorney John Burlew.
Burlew said that after an approximately 45-minute long transfer hearing Thursday, the judge ruled that probable cause existed and that the alleged offender would be transferred to adult court.
The juvenile suspect, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, is currently still lodged in the Warren County Juvenile Detention Facility on a $500,000 full cash bond.
The shooting occurred at approximately 9:11 p.m. on June 24 in the 1800 block of Hughes Avenue. According to a release at the time, Owensboro Police Department officers arrived at the scene and located a juvenile male with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, later identified as Black, was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital where he later died due to his injuries, according to OPD.
The process of transferring a case from juvenile court to adult court is outlined in KRS 640.010.
Per state law, the juvenile’s identity will not be released until his first appearance in adult court. As of Thursday, a preliminary hearing in adult court had yet to be set for the suspect.
