UPDATE: 1 person dies after being shot near Ben Hawes Park, autopsy set for Thursday

UPDATE — A female has died after being shot near Ben Hawes Park, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday. No other details about the victim are being released at this time.

Sheriff Brad Youngman said the shooting took place on Willet Road, and the call came in to central dispatch at approximately 12:30 p.m. DCSO, the Owensboro Police Department, and the Kentucky State Police, along with the Daviess County Fire Department and AMR Ambulance, responded to the scene. 

Youngman said a female victim was located at the scene, and she was transported by AMR in critical condition to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Youngman said shortly after arriving at the Emergency Room, the victim died from her injuries.

The Daviess County Coroner’s Office has taken charge of the victim’s remains and has scheduled an autopsy for Thursday. The coroner will be handling identification of the victim, and Youngman said DCSO will not release more information regarding the victim until after the autopsy. 

At this time, DCSO has taken lead on this death investigation. DCSO Criminal Investigations Division has detectives and evidence collection personnel on Willet Road processing the scene. OPD and KSP are providing resources and assisting in the investigation.
