The Owensboro City Commission approved four ordinances at Tuesday night’s meeting.

One ordinance was to amend the 2022-2023 budget to establish funding for wage study, mayor contingency, information and technology needs, the Ben Hawes irrigation project, and more.

Another ordinance formally established details about the new natural gas franchise bid. This comes after the city’s deal with Atmos Energy Corporation expired in May. The ordinance establishes that the franchise selected will have a deal for 20 years with 3% of gross revenues going to the city.

Two other ordinances were approved, allowing for the closing of two alleyways in Owensboro.

In other business, city engineer Kevin Collignon responded to a question from Commissioner Pam Smith-Wright about improvements to 4th Street. Although there is no official construction time set, he said that completion is on the near horizon, giving an estimate of two weeks.

The commissioners also discussed the success of recent events in Owensboro such as the Black Expo’s Juneteenth celebration at English Park and the IMCA’s talent search at Friday After 5.
