Republican gubernatorial candidate Daniel Cameron made a campaign stop Monday afternoon at Reid’s Orchard in Owensboro.

Cameron is a figure who has been both praised and criticized for his actions as attorney general.

Although his campaign stop came just after the announcement that Breonna Taylor’s mother would be backing a grassroots organization against his campaign, Cameron made no statement regarding the issue as he spoke to the crowd of supporters and local politicians about his vision for Kentucky.

Cameron said that the race is about “a contrast of visions,” stating that his is one that opposes many of the actions and values of the Beshear administration over the past 3 years.

Cameron specifically criticized the administration for the closing of small businesses and churches during the pandemic, labeling workers as essential or non-essential, and increases in violent crime.

In line with previous statements, Cameron expressed continued support for pro-life policies, moving the state’s income tax rate towards 0, and an education system that “(prioritizes) reading, writing, and math over far left ideology that’s trying to creep into our schools.”

Cameron said that western Kentucky is particularly important to his campaign.

“Western Kentucky needs to know that they’re going to have leadership in Frankfort that will always recognize, appreciate, and respect them and take what they have to say on policy issues seriously,” Cameron said. “

In terms of how he plans to help Owensboro and Daviess County, Cameron said that he hopes to spark economic development through increased broadband access.

“We need to be thinking very creatively about how we expand broadband access,” Cameron said. “We really can be a hub for remote work. If we have strong broadband access and capability, we can bring a lot of those remote jobs to Kentucky so that folks can partake in a beautiful place like Reid’s Orchard.”

Although Cameron talked about many issues, attendee Larry Hamilton said that he supports Cameron because he aligns with his values.

“I’m a conservative and a Christian and I believe that’s what our state as well as our country needs,” Hamilton said.

Cameron ended a statement with a comment about those values.

“Our identities are as Christ followers, as husband and wife to our son Theodore, and those are the values that we are leading with in this campaign,” Cameron said. “Those are the values that will carry us across the finish line.”
