A male juvenile has been charged with murder for the shooting death of a female victim Wednesday near Ben Hawes Park, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, his identity cannot be released at this time according to state law. No other details about the victim are being released until autopsy has been complete; that is scheduled for Thursday.
DCSO released the following statement Wednesday just after 9:45 p.m.:
During the ensuing investigation into the shooting reported on Willet Road, it was determined that this death was the result of a homicide. DCSO Detectives from the General Investigations and Special Investigations Units worked this case jointly and quickly developed a suspect. He was charged with the below offenses but will not be identified at this time due to his age. More information may be released following the victim’s autopsy which is scheduled for 0800 AM, Thursday, June 22nd. This case remains under investigation by the DCSO and DCCO.

In addition to murder, the juvenile has been charged with tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a minor.
Earlier Wednesday, Sheriff Brad Youngman said the shooting took place on Willet Road, and the call came in to central dispatch at approximately 12:30 p.m. Youngman said a female victim was located at the scene, but later died from her injuries while at the hospital.
