Two people have been arrested after suspected human remains were found Monday inside a tote at a storage unit on New Hartford Road, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, and stemmed from a missing person’s complaint regarding a juvenile female.

A release from DCSO reads as follows:

On the evening of Friday September 30th, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a possible missing person’s complaint. The caller had garnered knowledge and was concerned that a juvenile female was missing from a known family. The caller stated that Jose Gomez-Alvarez and Cheyanne Porter care for several children, however, one particular female child hadn’t been with them for some time. The caller stated that they had different excuses as to why this child was never with the other children and believed something may have happen to the child.

Early on it was apparent that Jose Gomez-Alvarez and Cheyanne Porter have been transient, living in different states, staying in local hotels for much of 2022. A Facebook post was made to locate the two individuals and check the welfare of all children, including the possible missing child. The child in question had not been reported missing by any other agency, subsequently the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office filed a missing person’s report on the juvenile.

On Monday October 4th information received led us to a storage facility located at 3425 New Hartford Road Owensboro, Kentucky. We located a storage container which was rented by Cheyanne Porter. A search warrant was obtained for the rental space. Upon searching the contents, a tote was located with suspected human remains. The Daviess County Coroner’s Office was contacted and transported the human remains to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville, Kentucky for autopsy and future positive identification.

Warrants were obtained on Jose Gomez-Alvarez (DOB 10-09-1990) and Cheyanne Porter (DOB 08-09-1995) for Tampering with Physical Evidence and Abuse of Corpse. Both subjects were later located in Berea, Kentucky. Kentucky State Police Post 7 responded, executing the arrest warrants and assisted in the overall investigation.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of transporting both subjects from Madison County Detention to Daviess County Detention Center.

The death investigation is on-going among the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, Kentucky State Police Post 7/Post 16, KSP DESI West, Homeland Security, and additional local law enforcement

No additional information is available for release at this time….
