The granite pedestal that served as the base for the Confederate monument on the Daviess County Courthouse lawn has been removed. It is being given to the United Daughters of the Confederacy and will be moved to the Battle of Panther Creek site on U.S. 431.

The announcement about the move came earlier this month from Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly.

The 7-foot-tall bronze sculpture of a Confederate soldier was removed from the base on May 31 and taken to the Daviess County Operations Center. It will remain the property of Fiscal Court. No long-term plan has been announced for the statue.

The agreement to give the base to the UDC while the County maintains ownership of the statue ended all legal disputes about the monument.
