Owensboro native and young entrepreneur Jessica Mann created Squiggle Spookins Co. — an online self-care-focused shop with a magical vibe — in January of 2021. Operating initially as Jessica Mann Art and specializing in stickers and digital prints, the company quickly evolved to feature waterproof stickers, bookmarks, and crystal-infused bath soaks.

Mann said she had a fair share of reservations about converting her hobby and passion into a full-time business. After significant learning curves and ironing out a business model, she arrived at Squiggle Spookins Co., craftily named after her cat.

“Selling my art had always been a big dream of mine since I was a kid, but I was always too scared to actually start,” Mann said. “JM Art was basically me jumping in without any idea of how to run a business and figuring it out as I went.”

Mann’s cat Squiggle Breadstick is a tortoiseshell cat, which she said is believed to bring good luck and protect homes from ghosts.

“When Squiggle gets zoomies, she has a habit of staring at a wall for a bit before continuing, so my fiance and I started saying, ‘Squiggle is spooking the ghosts,’ since that’s what it looked like,” she said. “The whole tortie lore and Squiggle Breadstick, in general, fit the vibe I was going for really well, and once I considered Squiggle Spookins Co, everything else fell into place.”

Mann hand-draws every sticker and bookmark, cutting them with either her Silhouette Cameo or by hand, depending on the complexity of the design. They also contain a protective layer that prevents “wear and tear” water damage. She also offers notepads, produced off-site with the trusted quality of Post-it but with her hand-drawn designs.

As of late, the Squiggle Spookins Co. is pushing its crystal-infused bath soaks, each containing a salt blend to ease minor aches, oils to moisturize skin, and herbs and crystals to correspond with the intention behind the soak.

“We currently have a Fruit Loop-inspired soak meant to increase intuition, a peach cobbler-inspired soak which contains a layer of sugar scrub meant to manifest protection, and several more,” Mann said. “I also have plans to expand and include notebooks, sugar scrubs, and some more metaphysical products as well.”

Squiggle Spookins Company is active on all social media outlets under @squigglespookinsco. For more information or to place a custom or wholesale order, reach out via email at [email protected]

Products are also available for purchase at www.squigglespookins.com. Mann said if you live in Owensboro, you can bypass shipping costs by changing standard shipping to Owensboro shipping at checkout.

The crystal-infused bath soaks are available in-store at Moonbow Apothecary and Emporium on Sweeney Street.
