Organized by the Home Builders Association of Owensboro (HBAO), the Parade of Homes has played an integral role in the building community for over six decades. The self-guided, scattered home site tour runs on June 18-19 and June 25-26.

The varying home sites (listed below) are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. both Sundays. This year’s event features 12 homes that span the entire county from eight registered builders.

“Our builders are looking to find future clients and showcase their products,” said HBAO executive officer Richard Stallings. “Our printed and virtual tour guide has the details of every home, including floor plans, elevation drawings, and artist renderings. It’s tough to have photos because many homes are under construction the weeks leading up to the event.”

“You can lay it out from east to west or vice versa,” Stallings said. “You don’t have to drive the entire tour either … You can begin at a site near your home and follow the map accordingly. There’s no admission, so go in any direction you want.”

Most of the parade stops are custom homes with the latest design trends. The builders themselves or a representative will be at each house to answer any questions and showcase the home and its features.

Stallings said the demand for new homes is at an all-time high, with new builds increasing by 76% over the past three years. He added that, like many industries, they are strained by delays in materials and labor shortages, but they are building as many as they can.

“This is a fun, social event, and we see many of the same people and families every year,” he said. “People come out to find a builder or to gather design ideas. With them being custom homes, there won’t be another opportunity to look at the detailed work.”
