The Owensboro Family YMCA has various classes and clinics throughout the summer for kids of all ages.

If your child wishes to further his/her skills in the pool, the YMCA has swimming lessons for kids aged 6 months-12 years. Sessions are offered in June, July, and August and each lasts four weeks.

Parent-tot swim options are available for children aged 6 months-3 years. These are held Saturdays from 8:30-9 a.m. The cost is $30 for members and $50 for non-members for all four weeks.

Preschool group swim options are available for ages 3-5 years. These are held Saturdays from 9:15-9:45 a.m. and cost $30 for members and $50 for non-members for all four weeks.

Group swim options are available for ages 6 to 12 years and vary based on skill level.

Levels 1 and 2 (water acclimation and water movement) meet either from 5-5:45 p.m. on Tuesdays or 6-6:45 p.m. on Thursdays.

Levels 3 and 4 (water stamina and stroke introduction) meet from 6-6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and 5-5:45 p.m. on Thursdays. The cost is $45 for members and $75 for non-members.

If you or your child is already an experienced swimmer and wants to take things a step further, consider completing the Y’s Lifeguard Certification Course. Participants must be at least 15 years old and pass a swim test on the first day of class to continue with the course. The cost is $190 for members and $240 for non-members, which includes a whistle and a CPR rescue mask.

The YMCA also offers American Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid classes for ages 15 and older during summer and beyond. After successful completion, participants get a digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED that is valid for two years.

Date options are:

  • June 15, 1-3 p.m, registration deadline June 10
  • Sept. 14, 1-3 p.m, registration deadline Sept. 9
