Owensboro natives Seth and Marcy Owens recently opened S&M Woods and Wares inside of Gasper Brewing Company in Bowling Green. The new store features handmade woodworking and soaps, and serves as an outlet for local artists.
The couple relocated from Owensboro to a farm in Scottsville in December of 2018 to begin chasing their dreams. They live in an 80×40-square foot pole barn that doubles as their living quarters and workspace.
“Seth and I started our small business at home, on our farm,” Marcy Owens said. “We live in a pole barn with 1,200 square feet turned into our living space, with a set of French doors that welcome us to the shop.”
The Owens recently celebrated the grand opening of their brick-and-mortar at Gasper Brewing, which features their creations and the works of 25 other Kentucky artists. After much thought and consideration, they carefully crafted the name S&M Woods and Wares.
“Seth and Marcy – that’s where the name started,” Owens said. “Then, we had to decide how to encompass and represent what we wanted to see brought to life, including our friends, all artists in their own ways.”
Marcy has been a soap maker for roughly 7 years, also crafting beard oils and balms. Arriving at a name that encompassed woodworking and soap was a challenge, but “Woods and Wares” fit the bill.
The two are also collaborating with the brewing company to offer exciting events and activities for people of all ages. Those events range from monthly Sunday brunches and extra classes to kids’ activities and community information events.
“The space is for makers, all makers,” she said. “S&M will also host various classes, such as bracelet making, flower pressing, paint pouring, pottery, and more. ”
