A prayer vigil for Ukraine will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Overlook in downtown Owensboro. The event is being hosted by Iryna Tincher, who lives in Owensboro but is originally from Ukraine.

Tincher said she plans to have some people from different churches come pray and have guest speakers in addition to addressing the crowd herself.

“It’s not going to be a politician. It’s not going to be about the politics. It’s going to be just to pray for the people who have already died in this horrible war and for God to fight the evil,” Tincher said.

The vigil is planned to start at 7 p.m., at which time the Owensboro bridge will also be lit with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

This is not the first time that Tincher has gathered people to support those at war in Ukraine, as she just completed collecting donations to send to a church based out of New Jersey that will send the money over to Ukrainian for relief funds.

Tincher and her husband matched the $3,500 received through donations, making it a total of $7,000 that will be sent.

She hopes to provide other relief, but said it’s difficult right now.

“I would love to send something or ship something, but everything is shut down because they are just so overwhelmed it’s unbelievable,” Tincher said. “And I’m going to probably look for different organizations to send a little bit of money there because people really need it.”
