Update, 1:14 p.m. — All students and staff are safe and out of the building, but some may have left cell phones, keys or other important items on campus due to the sudden evacuation, Revlett said. However, they will not be able to return to pick up those up until tomorrow.
OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess said it could take several hours before the building is cleared due to its size and the need to do both an initial sweep and a second more thorough sweep.
Officials were not able to say the specific threat made by the caller, and said they only know the word bomb was mentioned.
Students and staff were first evacuated evacuated to the football field to ensure they were out of the building, Revlett said. The process then began to send students home. Bus riders were all sent off by 1 p.m., and car riders were all gone a short time after.
Revlett said there will be no on-campus after school activities at OHS today (that does not include activities off campus such as practices at Shifley Park or at other facilities).
AMR Ambulance also responded to the scene but there have been no injuries.

Original story — Owensboro High School received multiple consecutive phone calls from the same number that all contained a bomb threat Wednesday morning, a district official confirmed just after noon. Everyone in the building has been evacuated and is safe.
The Owensboro Police and Fire Departments are on scene to investigate.
According to Owensboro Public Schools Public Information Officer Jared Revlett, the school received three phone calls “back-to-back-to-back” at approximately 11:40 a.m., and all three calls contained bomb threats. He said OHS began evacuating the building after the first call.
According to a post on the OPS Facebook Page, “At this time, all students at OHS are being dismissed for the remainder of the day. Students will not be allowed back in the building at this time to retrieve any items and if they can’t get their keys, they will need to be picked up. This post will be updated as details develop.”
